J Class Plans and Drawings

John Hanks and myself have been working together to try and locate drawings or plans for all of the J Class boats for skippers/builders that are interested in working from plans and building their own boat. Construction methods vary from traditional plank on frame to creating a plug and mold combination for fiberglass hulls.  In any case, it has been difficult or extremely expensive to obtain plans for the boats of this class... but we are working towards making those plans available HERE for free or for a donation to the class. In either case we will be doing everything possible to make the information available to prospective builders here. As the files become available, they will be posted here. If you have plans with the legal right to distribute and would care to share them please contact me.

There are very basic line drawings of the hulls available which are suitable for constructing a J Class model yacht. This is a scale appearance not, a "true scale" class. All efforts should be made to comply with the known dimensions and shapes of the individual hulls, but there is no intent of measuring for scale accuracy. There are known dimensions such as LOA and draught that should be observed, but these and things such as rudder area etc. should be considered more along the lines of not attempting to gain an advantage through alteration of the known dimensions than being required to measure out exactly correct.

FULL SIZE RANGER HULL

Plans are available from John Hanks.  This is for the HULL ONLY.   These were made from the original Ranger plans themselves and consequently do not include the 2" keel extension. Since this was not on the original boat, no plans for this exist and it is up to the individual builder to fair in the extension. Also, there are no written instructions at this time. This is for the PLAN SHEET and includes shipping:
